• Audio Return Channel - The new specification adds an audio channel that will reduce the number of cables required to deliver audio "upstream" from a TV to an A/V receiver for processing and playback. In cases where a TV features an internal content source, such as a built-in tuner or DVD player, the Audio Return Channel allows the TV to send audio data upstream to the A/V receiver via the HDMI cable, eliminating the need for an extra cable

To me, a cable is a cable, but after trying out this HDMI compared to our previous cable, it is a lot clearer and crisper than our previous. Plus, it is a little more durable than our previous as well. It's a good length since our tv is up high above our fire place so it needs to be long for us to plug into our computers. I'm really not sure what the gold plate has to do with it but if that's what makes it so clear, then who cares right? I am absolutely impressed compared to our "insert big name store" brand.
