Rusted Rails Book Review

"Rusted Rails" based in 1928, resurrects the now abandoned coal-mining town of Wilder, Tennessee. Life in these towns held little promise for the future. One family, that of David and Jenny Hughes, sought to keep their son out of the mines. Their plan was, however, jeopardized by David's untimely death and by Jenny's discovery that she was carrying her late husband's unborn child. With few options, Jenny chose abortion. And so begins a gritty tale that tells of Jenny's rescue from the dire consequences of her decision

 

 

I love anything historical fiction and this one did not let me down. Actually, I have to say it is one of my favorites. Without giving away too much of the story, this is one that gives an important history lesson in illegal abortions. It is extremely well written and a very enjoyable read. I was able to read this book through without feeling like it was too dry or even too much. I have to recommend this to anyone who has an interest in historical fiction.

This is a book about a man breaking down the writings of Nicholas Baker. He reflects on the writings real and inferred meanings. It wasn't super interesting to me as I am into a different style of writings personally, but it was a new book and I am not one to turn down it down. I won't give away the whole story but it does leave you questioning things you never really would have thought about before. And then you finish it and you are left going... what did I just read? It wasn't bad but it wasn't perfect. I still recommend it to anyone who would like a new style to read.
